We all know the increased usage of connected devices in the last decade and the continued growth with a potential for the market to reach up to USD 724.2 Billion by 2023. Per Gartner, the number of connected IoT (Internet of Things) devices is expected to reach over 20.8 billion by 2020. With more and more mobile population, the need for connected devices and connectivity in real time is of essence. This means more data connections and synchronizations resulting in an aggregation of huge amount of data that needs to be analyzed and made sense to make any meaningful action. This is where the need of visualization comes in. Let’s see an example of how visualization comes handy in real world scenario right at your home environment.
For e.g., Imagine your home filled with smart appliances, smart home safety and security systems (sensors, monitors, cameras, and alarm systems), and smart home energy equipment, like smart thermostats and smart lighting. Without a centralized simple to use monitoring and controls platform enabled via visualizations, you will end up feeling overwhelmed vs. being relaxed. However, with a simple centralized visualization platform – the ability to control your home remotely, schedule your appliances, monitor energy costs, hands free control using voices all can be done at ease and convenience even away from home. You shall not only monitor devices but also gain real-time status and alerts remotely as well. In near future, these devices will operate under the open communication standard such as ZigBee, Bluetooth, Z-wave integrated with different sensor applications linking their intelligence to create the real Smart Home that no longer needs any ongoing human intervention. Flooded with an abundant amount of information on user activity, preferences and goals, IoT along with simple to use visualizations can turn data into notifications to give users as many insightful tips as possible. Today still about 90% of smart device data goes uncaptured and using visualization platforms/solutions in a world of IOT, we can realize the full potential of the smart home by understanding and acting on data from various devices.
